Camping l’Esplanade
In the French department of Haute-Saône, on the banks of the River Ognon and with views of the Jura mountains, lies Camping l’Esplanade. This small campsite is run by Dutch owners and offers a friendly atmosphere with plenty of space to relax. The campsite has 44 pitches with electricity, spread across a green, hedge-lined terrain. There is also a large tent field by the riverbank. The river is a favourite place to cool off in summer — you can swim, paddle, canoe and fish (note: a permit is required for fishing).
Camping by the River
The pitches at l’Esplanade are spacious and green, separated by hedges for extra privacy. The riverside tent field is open, natural and ideal for tent campers who enjoy the sound of flowing water and an unobstructed view. The sanitary building is simple but clean, with four toilets and four showers, one of each accessible for guests with reduced mobility. There is a washing-up area with three sinks, plus a separate room with three urinals and a facility for emptying chemical toilets. No coin system — everything is included. For children there is a playground with swings, a seesaw, a volleyball net and table tennis. There is no animation team, but the campsite occasionally organises spontaneous activities such as a smuggling game or tug-of-war.
Simple Comfort & Local Atmosphere
On the terrace next to reception, you can enjoy a cold drink, snack or ice cream. In high season the terrace is open daily, and joint barbecues are sometimes organised. The small campsite shop offers basic products and a freezer for cooling elements. Fresh bread can be collected every morning (except Mondays). Dogs are welcome on a lead, and there is a farm track where you can walk your pet. Everything on this campsite radiates simplicity and friendliness — no fuss, just genuine hospitality.
Nature & Adventure Along the Ognon
The River Ognon plays a major role in campsite life: swimming, canoeing and fishing are all possible. The river is shallow in most places but has a gentle constant current. Children can play safely, though the youngest need supervision. Small campfires are allowed at designated spots along the riverbank. For active guests, the area offers canoe rental, SUP boarding, hiking and cycling. There are routes for every level — from easy rides through picturesque villages to challenging mountain bike trails. Nearby you’ll also find adventure parks and laser tag.
Culture & Day Trips in the Region
Camping l’Esplanade is perfectly located for excursions. Only 20 km away is Besançon, a lively city with a stunning citadel, museums, a zoo and a historic centre. Vesoul and Rioz are also worth a visit. Families can enjoy the Dino-Zoo, the Peugeot Museum or the cheese museum. You’ll also find walks leading to waterfalls, caves and viewpoints with panoramas over the Jura — and even as far as Switzerland. Wine lovers can explore the Jura wine route, with tastings in charming villages at local wineries.
