Camping Meerland
Camping Meerland is a nature campsite located in the heart of the Blauwestad lake district in Groningen. The spacious pitches are spread out over open grassy fields and are suitable for tents, caravans, (camper)vans, and rooftop tents. It’s also possible to spend the night in a cosy hiker’s cabin, suitable for up to four people. Campfires are allowed, and there is a pizza oven available (for a small fee). The campsite is situated in the middle of Blauwestad, an 800-hectare lake area ideal for water sports and enjoying nature.
Please note: due to circumstances, the campsite will be closed for the 2025 season, but the accommodations may still be rented.
Things to see and do in the province of Groningen
Just a stone’s throw from the campsite lies the vast Oldambtmeer. Here, you can swim, sail, paddleboard or canoe in a peaceful and water-rich environment. The lake is lined with beaches, jetties and walking trails – perfect for a relaxing day by the water. The Blauwestad region is a paradise for walkers and cyclists. Follow the winding paths along the lake, through woods and across dikes. Along the way, you’ll pass traditional farms, birdwatching spots and scenic viewpoints. About 30 minutes away is the impressive fortified town of Bourtange. This 16th-century star-shaped fort has been beautifully restored and offers museums, ramparts, and cobbled streets full of charming artisanal shops.
