Camping Vrijland – Small-scale camping in the Achterhoek
In the countryside near the picturesque town of Lochem lies Camping Vrijland, a farm campsite where peace, nature and conviviality go hand in hand. This small, lively campsite is run by the Nijdeken family, who warmly open their farm to campers. Here you camp among meadows, cows and a vegetable garden, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the outdoors together. It’s the ideal destination for nature lovers, adventurers and anyone looking for an authentic camping experience.
Pitches and gypsy wagons
Camping Vrijland has around 20 spacious pitches, each with 10-amp electricity and beautiful views over the Achterhoek landscape. Whether you come with a tent, caravan or camper, there’s always a nice spot available. For those without their own camping gear or looking for something special, there are two original gypsy wagons: the Blue and the Red. Cosily furnished with a box bed, kitchen and veranda. The kitchen includes everything you need: a fridge with freezer, hot water boiler, plenty of sockets, cutlery, coffee machine and induction hob. The dining table is perfect for a cosy breakfast or dinner. From your terrace you can enjoy the views and the sunset.
Outdoor living and farm meals
At Camping Vrijland, everything revolves around enjoying the outdoors. Children can play in the tyre playground, and in the evening the campsite comes alive at the campfire: roasting marshmallows, sharing stories and stargazing. Special evenings are those when meals are prepared in the Farm Kitchen, where daughter Marina cooks delicious dishes with vegetables from grandma Gerda’s garden. On Fridays and Saturdays you can join in for a fresh, local dinner with other guests. Don’t forget to reserve!
Facilities and comfort
The sanitary block is modern and well-maintained, with showers, toilets and washing-up areas. Across the site you’ll find relaxation corners, picnic tables and hammocks, perfect for unwinding. For extra relaxation there’s a hot tub, ideal for soaking in warm water under the stars. Guests can also rent a fire bowl and light their own campfire beside the tent. And everywhere, that view: green meadows, old oaks and occasionally deer wandering at the edge of the site.
Discover Lochem and the Achterhoek
The surroundings of Camping Vrijland are as varied as the campsite itself. Lochem is a charming town with terraces and shops, but the real highlight is the nature. Walk through the bocage landscapes with hedgerows, streams and castles, or cycle through the Achterhoek. Families will find fun outings nearby, such as De Kleine Carrousel farm experience or swimming at De Beemd. Culture and history are also close: visit castles, museums or explore the Berkel River by canoe or fishing rod.
