Quinta da Cerca
Quinta da Cerca is a small-scale, ecological nature campsite in the heart of Portugal, located on a vast estate among olive groves, eucalyptus forests, and wild vegetation. The site overlooks the impressive mountains of the Serra da Estrela. You can camp here with your tent, campervan, caravan or motorhome under olive trees or on open spots with a view. The pitches are spacious and spread out across the estate, so everyone can find their own perfect spot, whether in shade or full sun. The sanitary facilities are modern and clean, warm water is freely available, and there are several two‑amp power outlets throughout the site. Due to its layout, the estate is less suitable for large caravans, but smaller campers and folding trailers fit easily among the greenery.
Camping on a green estate in Portugal
From May to October, the panoramic swimming pool is open. Here you can sunbathe or relax in the shade under palm and bamboo fronds. The summer bar is a popular meeting place where refreshing drinks, cocktails and atmospheric music are served. It is also the spot to find information and hiking maps, or simply to chat with other guests after a warm summer day. Guests can order fresh rolls each morning, and once a week there is sourdough rye bread baked in a wood‑fired oven. Breakfast includes freshly baked rolls, homemade jam, muesli, cheese, cold cuts, eggs and of course fresh coffee and tea. Three evenings a week a communal dinner is served under the majestic Australian tree or on the covered terrace. On cooler days, the heated hall is open. On Sundays, fresh sardines from the Tábua market are prepared to order.
Discover the nature around Serra da Estrela
From the campsite you can walk directly into beautiful hikes. Along the Rio Cavalos, a path meanders over little bridges and through a gorge with small waterfalls. The trail leads to Vale de Gaios, where you can swim in the clear pool formed by a river dam. On the estate itself you will find a rich variety of vegetation, impressive rock formations, alternating forests and the occasional abandoned farmhouse. The surroundings are crisscrossed with trails and dirt roads that lead to peaceful villages. For those who truly want to explore the landscape, seven walks have been planned, with durations between one and four hours.
