Discover the Allier

Located on the banks of a river lies the capital of Allier: Moulins. This historic town was founded in the Middle Ages and you can find beautiful old sights there. A highlight of the town is Notre-Dame-de-l’Annonciation. This church has a Gothic architectural style with impressive stained-glass windows. Another well-known town in the region is Vichy. The town was founded in the first century on a site with many hot springs. Today, the town has grown into a true spa resort with various thermal baths, which are believed to have healing properties. The picturesque medieval village of Charroux is also not to be missed. The village is characterised by cosy squares, beautiful alleys and old half-timbered houses. You will feel as if you have stepped back in time to the Middle Ages, and you will also find nice restaurants and shops there. Beautiful castles in Allier include Château Billy, Château de Bourbon-l’Archambault and Château de Thoury.
